James Kelly - How to Build a Faith and Technology Movement
"I don't know my place in the church." It was only two years ago I heard this sobering phrase over and over from some of the most brilliant tech wizards in the world. Since, I have been on a quest to solve this very problem. It took me into a brand new emerging world - the world of faith and technology. Now, two years later, I have the honor to be a part of a global movement of men and women of faith who deeply think and strategically build technology that advances the Kingdom of God. My goal in this talk will be to stir hearts and open minds to the possibility of leveraging technology to shape culture and help change their cities and the world. I'll share my personal story rooted in the phrase "in the midst of devastation is an opportunity for innovation" pulling out lessons of inspiration and challenge along the way.
Is Google the New God?
If you have a secret, question, or concern what do you do? Google it, right? We turn to search engines more than we turn to our fathers, mothers, friends, or spiritual leaders. But what answers is Google providing? And if Google is our god, what role does the true God, Jesus Christ, play in our lives? Are Tech Wizards Revolutionizing Leadership?
For the first time ever, the top five companies in the world are tech companies. The leaders of Apple, Google, Facebook, Microsoft, and Amazon started from unassuming roots. They probably didn’t look like “leaders” in their garages. But they are the ones who have managed to completely shift our culture. Tech leaders have virtually unprecedented power to mold the future. The question is: how are they using it — and how will you? 3 Reasons We Need Tech Missionaries
Do you feel called to serve Jesus? To live out the Gospel? To proclaim the good news? We often define missionaries as people who go spread their beliefs in a foreign country. This means you have to GO somewhere to be a missionary. To uproot your home and leave your current life behind. But what if you didn’t? What if you owned the title of “missionary” right now? Right where you are?
